Stress can be triggered by a problem that may on the surface seem impossible to solve. Learning how to find solutions to your problems will help you feel more in control thereby lowering your level of stress.
7. Manage Your Time
At times, we all feel overburdened by our 'To Do' list and this is a common cause of stress. Accept that you can not do everything at once and start to prioritize and diarize your tasks.
8. Learn to Say ‘No’
A common cause of stress is having too much to do and too little time in which to do it. And yet in this situation, many people will still agree to take on additional responsibility. Learning to say “No” to additional or unimportant requests will help to reduce your level of stress, and may also help you develop more self-confidence.
9. Rest If You Are Ill
If you are feeling unwell, do not feel that you have to carry on regardless. A short spell of rest will enable the body to recover faster.
10. Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol, and Nicotine.
Avoid, or at least reduce your consumption of, nicotine and all drinks containing caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine, alcohol and nicotine are stimulants and so will increase your level of stress rather than reduce it.

Beyond a take-charge approach and a positive attitude, you can reduce stress in your life by nurturing yourself. If you regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you’ll be in a better place to handle life’s stressors.

- Sweat out tension with a good workout.
- Write in your journal.
- Take a long bath.

- Have some routines in your day
- Engage in activities that focus on your hands & body, knitting, sketching, rock wall climbing

- Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea.
- Play with a pet.
- Work in your garden.
- Get a massage.

- Visualize calm like the ocean, mountains or whatever is calm to you
Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.
Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs.
- Set aside relaxation time. Include rest and relaxation in your daily schedule. Don’t allow other obligations to encroach. This is your time to take a break from all responsibilities and recharge your batteries.
- Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who enhance your life. A strong support system will buffer you from the negative effects of stress.
- Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be stargazing, playing the piano, or working on your bike.
- Keep your sense of humor. This includes the ability to laugh at yourself. The act of laughing helps your body fight stress in a number of ways.
Unhealthy ways of coping with stress
These coping strategies may temporarily reduce stress, but they cause more damage in the long run:
- Drinking too much
- Overeating or undereating, Eating junk food
- Zoning out for hours in front of the TV or computer
- Withdrawing from friends, family, and activities
- Dwelling on the negative
- Ignoring the problem
- Using pills or drugs to relax
- Sleeping too much
- Filling up every minute of the day to avoid avoid facing problems
- Taking out your stress on others (Lashing out, angry outbursts, physical violence)
