Most Important Gift

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and my thoughts have gone from thankfulness to gifts. Thankfulness and gifts should go hand in hand. Because we are thankful we should give gifts. We should be thankful to be able to give gifts and be thankful when we receive them. It made me think about what a gift life is and how if we are not thankful, we do not cherish it and are not aware of all the gifts we receive on a daily basis.

  • It is a gift to be able to wake up everyday.
  • It is a gift to see, hear, taste, touch, & smell.
  • It is a gift to have a healthy, functioning body.
  • It is a gift to be able to talk.
  • It is a gift to be able to relate to others…..

The list is infinite, but the most important gift of all is that God sent his son as a gift to mankind in order for us to have eternal life. This gift is far beyond what we could ever hope for or even comprehend. In spite of our shortcomings, God made it possible for us to live forever with him! Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we do not have to spend eternity in hell. We get to spend eternity in heaven! Just this one gift is enough to cause us to be thankful throughout our lives and throughout eternity!

While everyone is rushing around thinking about gifts to give others, think about the gift God has given us in Christ Jesus.

It is beyond comprehension. I believe the more we think about this gift, the more we’ll reflect God in our lives and share the gift with others. Oftentimes, when we receive a gift in the natural that we really like, we tell others about it and brag about who gave it to us. This should be our same inclination with God’s gift of eternal life. People should be able to see the gift of God in our lives everywhere we go because we wear it, we use it. There should be no question that we have received the gift.

My husband, Robb enjoys giving gifts and has given me many for no particular reason. I have a lot of nice things. When I wear or use what he has given me, people see it. They might comment about it. I get to tell them that my husband bought it for me. Most of the time the women say, “Wow! I wish I had a husband like that.” Sometimes the men say, “Don’t let my wife know about that because then she’ll want it.” It’s pretty funny. I never ask for anything and most of the time I do not want anything, but Robb expresses his love through the gifts he buys. God is the same way. He expressed his love through the gift of his son. We didn’t ask for it and may not have wanted it, but he gave believing we would receive his gift.

Whether I want the gift my husband gives me or not, if I receive it, I am receiving his love for me. It is the same with God. When I receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, I receive his love. As a result of receiving it, I reflect the love he has for me to others.

My prayer is that we would all receive the gift of God through Jesus Christ and be a reflection of that love to others.

I pray you have a Merry Christmas and that 2015 is filled with all of God’s best for you!
